Miss Shari McQueen

 

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree [synthesis of art, drama, and music] from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California.  I also have a Master of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies [Bible, music, and missions] from Wheaton College near Chicago, Illinois.  I completed my teacher credentialing program at the University of the Pacific.

 

I have studied conducting with Grammy Award winning Dr. Jerry Blackstone, who is currently the Director of Choral activities and Chair of Conducting at University of Michigan.  I have done further conducting studies at the Aspen School of Music with Maestro Paul Vermel, Maxim Shostakovich, and Murray Sidlin. 

 

I have taught music, drama, and art in public and private schools in California, Illinois, and Florida.  I have also directed music and youth programs and been the administrator for churches in both California and Illinois.  I am a member of the Music Educators National Conference, the Horn Society, the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, the American String Teachers Association, Kappa Delta Pi [Honor Society for Teachers], and the National Honor Roll for Outstanding Teachers.

 

My Carnegie Hall directing debut occurred on March 16, 2008.

Awards

Monte Vista received 2 of the 3 Command Performances given by the adjudicators to a field of 16 bands and orchestras.
