
Mr. Penrose received his Master of Music degree in conducting from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach. He graduated summa cum laude with his Bachelor of Music degree from the same university with majors in Music Education and Clarinet Performance. Mr. Penrose received his teaching credential in music and introductory mathematics from California State University, East Bay. He currently is the assistant conductor and principal clarinetist with the Monterey Community Band. He has performed with the Bellflower Symphony, Contra Costa Wind Symphony, various church worship teams, and is recorded on multiple albums with Jeffrey Scott and His Amazing Band.
Mr. Penrose began playing clarinet in the 4th grade and has continued ever since. In high school he picked up the Tenor Saxophone as a double, and played viola in the school orchestra during his junior and senior years. Mr. Penrose has studied clarinet with Dr. Duane Carroll, director of the Contra Costa Wind Symphony, and Helen Goode-Castro, performer and instructor in the Los Angeles region. As a graduate conductor at the Bob Cole Conservatory, Mr. Penrose studied conducting with the conservatory's director, Mr. John Carnahan, and Associate Director of Bands, Dr. Joan DeAlbuquerque.
