Data encryption
If you are using a security-enabled browser (virtually all modern browsers fall into this category), the information you view on our systems (i.e. grades, class schedules, address information) is encrypted, making it extremely difficult to read if it is wrongly intercepted.
MVCS systems utilize industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to allow for the encryption of both potentially sensitive information (such as your name and address), and critically sensitive information (such as your credit card number).
An unbroken key or closed padlock icon will appear in the status bar at the bottom of most browsers to indicate that SSL security is in operation. Clicking on the icon will display the digital certificate associated with the secure connection. This certificate is intended to guarantee the identity of the remote computer to which you are sending your details.
