Instrumental Arts

Our son has found so much joy in learning the guitar. And our family loves that music is so woven into the MVC experience. Whether it's the band playing at a football game or the orchestra playing at a concert hall, we find music that stirs that soul at MVC.

The instrumental music program at Monte Vista Christian School is an integral part of our institution's commitment to giving our students a well-rounded education. The Mustang Band, Jazz Band, Strings, and Guitar components all revolve around the individual aspirations and development of the student. The core of the instrumental music program is embracing and understanding basic music concepts. Each student is given access and a membership in the acclaimed Noteflight Learn Online Community.

Music is a collaboration that benefits our community and the world. Our students learn to express themselves as individuals, while working as teammates in small ensemble projects, as well as in larger ensemble presentations. Instrumental Music at Monte Vista Christian School has well over 100 students involved in band, orchestra, and handbells under the direction of Tyler Reilly.

Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals; praise him with resounding cymbals. Psalm 150:1-5

Tyler Riley

Tyler Reilly is a grateful and blessed father of three wonderful boys. After filling in for the outgoing instrumental music teacher during the final weeks of the last school year, we are proud to bring him on to navigate the rebuilding process of the program and steer it into a positive experience for our student body.

A conservatory trained professional violinist with our acclaimed Santa Cruz Symphony, Mr. Reilly brings over 25 years of performing and teaching experience to MVCS. After moving to the area five years ago, he quickly began performing with the Santa Cruz Symphony, Carmel Bach Festival, Monterey Symphony, Twin Lakes Church, Compass Church, Cabrillo Stage, and many others.

As an instructor, Mr. Reilly has been a program organizer for the socially progressive

Youth Orchestra Salinas after school music program in Salinas for over three years. He coaches for the Youth Music Monterey youth orchestra, the Orchestra in the Schools program in Seaside, as well as maintaining a private studio of competition and award winning students.
