Help Children and get Community Service!It is time to begin making 2016 Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes for needy children overseas. For every box you complete, you will receive TWO community service hours. There is no limit on how many boxes you can submit! Operation Christmas Children is sponsored by Samaritan's Purse, a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world.

SHOE BOXUse an empty shoe box (standard size, please) or a small plastic container. You can wrap the box (lid separately), but wrapping is not required. You can pick up a customized shoe box from Mrs. Tarr in S-3 or the business office, as long as supplies last Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift.
2. BOY OR GIRL?Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the child’s age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Mark the correct age category on the label, and tape the label to the top of your box.
3. FILL WITH GIFTSFill the box with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to a child. Use the gift ideas provided on the back side of this page. To receive your community service hours, you need to put at least 9 DIFFERENT Items from the gift ideas list (for example: more than one Pencil only counts as 1 item)
4. INCLUDE YOUR DONATIONPlease donate $7 or more for each shoe box you prepare to help cover shipping and other project costs. You can give online by using our “Follow Your Box Donation” option, or you can write a check to Samaritan’s Purse (note “OCC” on memo line) and place it in an envelope on top of the gift items inside your box. If you or your family are preparing more than one shoe box, please make one combined donation.
5. DROP OFFPlace a rubber band around each closed shoe box and drop off your filled shoebox to Mrs. Tarr (S-4) or the Business office by 11 AM November 17th.
Gift IdeasMust have 3 -5 of the following:TOYS: Include items that children will immediately embrace such as dolls, toy cars, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, balls, toys that light up and make noise (with extra batteries) Must have 3-5 of the following:SCHOOL SUPPLIES: pens (at least five), pencils and sharpeners (at least 5 pencils and one sharpener), crayons, markers, notebooks, paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books Must have 3-5 of the following:NON-LIQUID HYGIENE ITEMS: toothbrush, toothpaste, bar soap (must be in a sealed zip-lock bag), combs, hair brushes, washclothsAccessories: t-shirts, socks, hats, sunglasses, hair clips, jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries) Optional item to include:A PERSONAL NOTE: You may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. If you include your name and address, the child may be able to write back. DO NOT INCLUDE:Used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate or food; candy; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.

Fill out the form and include it in your box with your donation to receive a tax receipt. (Gifts are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.)There is no need for students to fill out a community service form. Once a COMPLETED BOX is turned in to Mrs. Tarr or the business office, the student’s name will be submitted to the office for community service.
