Laramie Holtzclaw ‘96

Laramie has been a steady fixture on MVC’s campus - first as a student and, for the last twenty-five years, an influential and inspiring teacher. “One hundred years is a big deal, and while I am not typically the sentimental or enthusiastic guy, I am embracing the power of the moment. MVC has been a place of growth for so many individuals for 100 years! That is, if you count them up, a lot of people: students and their families, teachers and their families, staff, people who simply walk on to campus for one reason or another. Celebrating with people who were blessed and with people who sacrificed so much to bless others will be a chance to show gratitude to all those who participated in building and sustaining this place, and, in truth, a way to honor our God and His work in this county and this world.”

The breadth and depth of his relationships across multiple generations at MVC are a testament to his commitment to the future promise for which MVC strives - learners empowered to achieve their highest potential through Christ-centered educational excellence.

Marsha & Kent Tarr

Miss Dunlap-turned-Mrs. Tarr was MVC’s longest serving faculty member, having completed 43 years teaching chemistry in 2021. Kent’s 28 years spent in MVC’s math department encompassed his and Marsha’s secret-from-the-students courtship and subsequent marriage in 2002. In addition to their excellence in the classroom, the Tarrs' enduring legacy is their unwavering devotion to the loving care of hundreds of boarding students from around the world - during their years as students at MVC and well beyond.

Whether chaperoning trips, hosting Christmas cookie-baking parties, or attending weddings near and far, Marsha and Kent’s dedication to seeing every person continues to this day as they serve the Lord in their new calling in Spokane, Washington.

One boarding student asked “Papa Tarr” to walk her down the aisle at her wedding because her parents were unable to travel from China to attend. Kent and Marsha flew to Minnesota to lovingly give this dear girl away to a young man who is passionate about sharing Jesus with others.

Esther’s attendance at Moms in Prayer each Friday has been an inspiration to current MVC parents gathering to pray for their children, and her frequent presence at arts and athletics events won her the privilege of throwing out the first pitch at a Mustangs baseball game last spring.
