School Picture Retake Day | Monday, September 21
Students who need their picture retaken or who missed picture day in August can have their picture taken on Monday, September 21 before school (8:00 am - 8:25 am), during break/ACCT (9:45 am - 10:25 am), or during lunch (11:50 am - 12:25 pm). Testing MVC's Emergency Notification System
We will be testing our MVC emergency notification system tomorrow (Friday, September 11). Depending on your cellular provider and their policies related to mass texts and/or whether you are a returning or newly added parent, you may receive an initial text message or request for approval tomorrow. However, every parent should receive the second test text message within 24 hours. Please contact IT Director Steve Kiebus with questions.

Just When You Think Your Kid Would Never….
Meet Leslie Barreras — beloved Spanish teacher, MVC parent, and now Dean of Students. On this week’s podcast, Leslie shares why she believes every student is fundamentally good, how behavior can be retaught rather than just punished, and what she wants parents to know the next time they get that phone call. Friday School is Tomorrow
Friday School is an opportunity for students to get the support they need in managing their coursework. Our first Friday School of the school year is tomorrow (Friday, September 11), from 2:15 pm - 3:45 pm. If assigned, Friday School takes priority over all extracurricular activities. Students can be involved in Friday School in three ways:

• They can proactively choose to attend to get additional help.

• They can be required by one or more of their teachers to attend. Students required to attend received an email to their MVC account on Tuesday, September 8. Parents were copied on the email.

• They can be required to attend based on their grades. If they have a D or F, they will be required to attend. High School students will check in at the ARC, and Middle School students will check in at the Middle School archway. Students will be directed to classes in which they have failing grades so they can work with their teacher.

Lower Grade students may be recommended for Friday School by their teacher if they are in need of extra support. 

Parents will need to provide transportation to their child(ren) after Friday School. Students may remain in the ARC until Friday School ends at 3:45 pm or until 6:00 pm when the ARC closes.

Gospel Concert
The Centennial celebration begins Thursday, October 1, with the Centennial Gospel Concert at 7:00 pm in the Don Price Performing Arts Chapel, featuring current MVC students and alumni. All are welcome. Seating is limited, so reserve your ticket today!

Gala
On Friday, October 2, the Centennial Gala at the Monterey Beach Hotel will honor MVC’s legacy and those who helped build it. The Gala is timed to accommodate parents dropping off students for the on-campus Homecoming Dance that evening. Purchase your ticket today, as we expect to sell out. 

Vintage Picnic
Join us on Saturday, October 3, 2026, for MVC’s Centennial Vintage Picnic, a fun-filled pre-homecoming game celebration for the entire family! Celebrate with carnival games, a dunk tank, face painting, animal balloons, a petting zoo, vintage cars, a fire truck, hayrides, bounce houses, pool access, and more. Reserve your free ticket for full access to the event and all the festivities. Boxed lunches are available for advance purchase. All ages are welcome! Alumni, students, families, and our local community are invited to come together to celebrate 100 years of MVC and honor the legacy that connects us all.

Homecoming Football Game & Centennial Weekend Finale
The weekend will culminate with the JV and Varsity football games in Mustang Stadium. Purchase game tickets today!

Homecoming Dance | Friday, October 2
This year’s Homecoming Dance will be held on Friday, October 2 from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm in the Don Price Performing Arts Chapel at MVC. This is a semi-formal dance and is open to all MVC High School students (no outside guests are permitted for this dance). Earlybird tickets are $30 and are available here beginning Saturday, September 11 through Saturday, September 19. Regular tickets are $35 and will be available Sunday, September 20 - Saturday, September 26. After that date, limited tickets will be available at the door for $40. No backpacks or bags any larger than a small purse will be permitted inside. Small bags and purses will be searched. Random breathalyzer tests will be issued to students; any student found with illegal substances on their breath will be asked to leave. Students will need to show their student ID at the entrance. MVC’s IB Diploma Candidates were recently emailed the September DP Core Newsletter. If you are a parent or guardian of a Diploma Candidate, please feel free to read it as well, to ask your child(ren) about their EE and CAS progress, and to send any questions about these items to Catherine Lowney.

California Scholarship Federation (CSF) | Applications Due Tomorrow
Is your child(ren) interested in becoming a member of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF)? This is an organization whose mission is to recognize and encourage academic achievement and community service. Membership requires students to reapply each semester beginning sophomore year. Applications are due to the ARC or emailed to Marjorie Schmidt no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, September 11.

Voter Registration Event at MVC
As part of our commitment to equip students to serve and lead in the broader community, we're partnering with Santa Cruz County Elections for their High School Voter Education Weeks to bring a voter registration opportunity right to our campus on Tuesday, September 15 at lunch. Any student age 16 or older is eligible to pre-register to vote in California. A valid photo ID or the last four digits of your child(ren)’s Social Security number is required.

College Fair Registration Info
Our annual Find Your Christian College Fair is coming to MVC on Wednesday, September 23! To help this fair run smoothly, we ask all students to register for the fair. If your child(ren) is under 16, they will be asked to confirm that you have given permission to fill out the form. This form will ask for a phone number, address, graduation year, and college major interest. This is used for colleges to then contact your child(ren). If you do not give permission for your child(ren) to fill out this form and attend the college fair, please reach out to Venessa Gutierrez in Student Services. You can find the registration form here to fill out with your child(ren) if you prefer.

If a student is receiving more than one D or an F when grades are checked, they will not be eligible to participate in their extracurricular activity. This includes practices, rehearsals, and games. We want to partner with you to ensure your child(ren) is set up for success. Please encourage them to stay on top of assignments and seek support early if they are struggling in a class.

We are so excited about Middle School Chapel this year! Each Tuesday, we will gather as a whole Middle School to hear from speakers on this year’s theme, ROOTED, meet in small groups led by MVC faculty and staff, or come together for a time of worship. We encourage you to take a minute to pray for your child(ren)'s spiritual growth and for all the connections and relationships (with God and people) that will develop through chapel this year. 

ACCT Period
Middle School students were introduced to the ACCT options for Wednesdays and Thursdays, which include clubs and tutorials. For your reference, here is the menu of choices available to our students on these two days. Students who need academic support may be directed to tutorials on each of these two days as the semester unfolds. Students can access this menu through the Middle School Bulletin.

Digital Citizenship
Our 4th and 5th Grade students will be receiving lessons on how to be caring and principled. Our Assistant Dean of Students, Jessica Avila, and Principal, Carissa Medina, will soon be engaging our students in conversation on how to use technology responsibly. Additionally, the conversation will include academic honesty and how to have fun and integrity while learning. 

Lower Grades Upcoming Field Trips
We are excited for our 4th Grade field trip to Old Oak Ranch and our 5th Grade field trip to Angel Island on Thursday, November 12 - Friday, November 13. To learn more about these camps, the cost, and also how to register (or opt out), please read this parent letter for 4th Grade and this parent letter for 5th Grade. All of our Lower Grade teachers will be on these field trips; therefore, we will not be offering courses on campus for those not registering for field trips. The Rite of Passage: Inside MVC’s Personal Project
What happens when a 15-year-old gets to lead their own learning for the first time? Dean of Curriculum Amber West joins host Devin Kleffer on this week’s podcast to unpack the MYP Personal Project — a seven-month journey where Sophomores choose a passion, work through a "learning pit," and discover what they're made of. From stained glass tributes to homemade arcade games, Amber shares the stories that stuck with her, plus practical tips for parents on cost, time, and support along the way.

MVC History Video From Back-to-School Night
As promised, we wanted to share this link to the 35-minute video overview of MVC's history, a portion of which was shown at each Back-to-School Night over the last few weeks. We recommend it as a fun watch for you and your child(ren) -  both to celebrate God's faithfulness over our first century and to see if you can spot current campus locations in their earlier days!

Road Construction Delays
There will be road repairs being made on Wheelock Road between Casserly and MVC on Tuesday, September 8, and Wednesday, September 9. This may lead to possible delays getting to and from school on those days, so please plan accordingly.

The weekend will culminate with a special on-campus celebration on Saturday, October 3, featuring a Vintage Picnic followed by the Homecoming Football Games at Mustang Stadium. College Knowledge Night
We are excited for you to join us for College Knowledge Night at MVC on Wednesday, September 9 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. We'll be talking through grade-level specifics of what to know for your child(ren)’s college exploration and admissions journey. We'll begin the evening with a chance to meet and greet a few colleges and then jump right into info sessions. Skip the meal prep and buy dinner in our Cafe. Three Countries, One Incredible Adventure!
Turn history, culture, and language into an unforgettable experience in June 2027. SAT Testing for Seniors | Registration Due Tomorrow (Friday, September 4)
If your Senior is interested in taking the SAT at MVC on Friday, October 16, from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm (time is subject to change), please sign up by tomorrow (Friday, September 4, at 3:00 pm). We have limited seats and will accommodate the first 75 registered students. The exam fee is $60 and will be charged to your Clarity account. Submission of the sign-up form is an agreement for payment that is non-refundable and non-transferable after Friday, September 4. We will be offering the SAT again in the spring, and it will be open to Juniors exclusively. Questions? Contact Venessa Gutierrez or your child(ren)’s guidance counselor. 

PSAT Testing | Sophomores and Juniors
All Sophomores and Juniors will be taking the PSAT on Friday, October 16. By taking the PSAT, students may meet requirements to enter the National Merit® Scholarship Program, as well as have access to other scholarship opportunities. PSAT is a digital exam; students will be downloading the testing app in their homerooms in the next few weeks and will receive more information. Please make sure your child(ren)’s devices are fully charged on testing day. If a student's device loses power on the day of the exam, they may not be able to complete the exam. Practice PSAT Test | Freshmen
MVC will be hosting our annual PSAT/SAT day on Friday, October 16. This year, we are partnering with Revolution Prep to administer the 9th Grade Practice PSAT. This test will provide instant score results and in-depth score breakdowns for parents. We will provide Revolution Prep with students' names, graduation year, and student email, as well as parent names, emails, and phone numbers. Revolution Prep is FERPA-compliant, and they do not sell, rent, or share student information. If you would like to opt out of the 9th Grade test, please email Venessa Gutierrez by Friday, September 11.

PHE Uniforms
All Middle School students enrolled in Physical & Health Education (PHE) will be required to wear a designated PHE uniform starting Tuesday, September 8. If students wear a sweatshirt and/or sweatpants, they must also be part of the PHE uniform. Purchases may be made at the Mustang Store.

School Supplies
Please review the grade-level supply lists (6th Grade, 7th Grade, 8th Grade) to be sure your student has what they need. A supply check will take place in classes to support our ATL (Approaches to Learning) organizational skills. 

iPad and Supply Care
To best care for and protect student devices, iPads are to be put away in backpacks before school, at breaks, lunch, and during passing periods. However, accidents are known to happen, so we strongly encourage parents to insure their child(ren)’s device as an extra measure of protection. Also, labeling all student accessories, including Apple Pencils, styluses, and chargers, is highly recommended, as we find a lot of missing items which end up in the Lost and Found.

Lost and Found
Many belongings (sweatshirts, water bottles, and PHE clothes/bags) are left throughout campus on a regular basis. Labeling your child(ren)’s belongings will help us return found items to the owner in a timely manner. Have your child(ren) check Lost and Found in the ARC for anything they may be missing.

California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) | Applications Due Tomorrow
California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) is a statewide academic organization that honors outstanding middle school students in grades 7 and 8 for their excellence in academics and service to the community. Applications for students currently in 8th Grade are due tomorrow (Friday, September 4). More information can be found in this parent letter. Students are encouraged to contact Emily Murray with questions. Applications can be found on the MS Bulletin or in the ARC.

Class Newsletters
Newsletters will be sent every Friday via email and contain important details regarding student learning goals, class announcements, and school-wide information. We thank you for taking time each week to read through the newsletters and don’t hesitate to reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher with any questions you may have, as we value parent partnership and a shared approach to educating our Lower Grade learners.

School Supplies
Please review this supply list to be sure your student has what they need. For consistency and easy access/preparation, teachers will keep classroom sets of supplies for a supply fee of $25, which will be debited through Clarity on Tuesday, September 8. Any additional supplies that are needed throughout the year will be communicated to you in advance, such as items for projects/presentations.

MVC Student Tickets for Home Football Games
MVC students receive free admission to home games. On the day of each home football game, students will receive a ticket in their MVC email for that evening’s game. They will need to show their ticket and student ID at the gate to receive free admission.

• Lower Grades’ student tickets will be sent to their parents' email addresses.

• Middle School students who do not have a phone or device must show their MVC student ID.

• High School students will need to show their ticket on their phone.

Mustang Club Season Passes
Support MVC student-athletes by joining the Mustang Club here! Each membership includes two passes to all home athletics events during the 2026–2027 school year. Fall Play Auditions for Clue | September 8
Thank you to all who showed interest in the production of Into the Woods. We are excited to announce that we are going in a new direction for our fall production - Clue by J. Lynn.  This is a classic "whodunnit" experience that will be fun and engaging for cast, crew, and audience alike. Auditions will be Tuesday, September 8, with callbacks on Wednesday, September 9, and an all-cast read-through on Friday, September 11. Note: If your child(ren) already submitted a registration form for Into the Woods, they do not need to resubmit for Clue. Detailed audition information can be found here. Home Football Game Need-to-Knows
As we host our first home football games next Friday, September 4, here are some of the things you need to know. 

Moms in Prayer
Every Friday that school is in session, MVC's Moms in Prayer gather in the Boardroom in Price Hall to pray for our students, faculty/staff, and school from 8:15 am - 9:00 am. When you arrive, check in with security at Gate 2 for a visitor’s pass, park in Visitor Parking, and join us. If you have a praise report or prayer need, fill out this form. Questions? College Knowledge Night
College Knowledge Night is back, and we are excited for you to join us at MVC on Wednesday, September 9 from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm. We'll be talking through grade-level specifics of what to know for your college exploration and admissions journey. We'll begin the evening with a chance to meet and greet a few colleges and then jump right into info sessions. Skip the meal prep and buy dinner in our Cafe. Dinner will be available from 5:00 pm- 5:30 pm; RSVP here by Friday, September 4, to reserve your food.

Three Countries, One Incredible Adventure!
Turn history, culture, and language into an unforgettable experience in June 2027. Students can join MVC History teacher Donell Lindner for a journey through Germany, France, and Spain, where they will explore iconic cities and see firsthand the places and cultures they’ve studied in school. Sign up soon for the lowest cost!

Athletics & Extracurricular Eligibility Check
The first eligibility check for athletics and extracurricular activities will take place on Monday, September 14. If a student has two (or more) Ds or one (or more) Fs when grades are checked, they will not be eligible to participate in their extracurricular activity. This includes practices, rehearsals, and games. We want to partner with you to ensure your child(ren) are set up for success. Please encourage them to stay on top of assignments and seek support early if they are struggling in a class. Read more about athletics and extracurricular eligibility here.

National Honor Society (NHS)
Applications are now being accepted from Juniors and Seniors for the National Honor Society (NHS). Applications are due to Kira Tellez in the ARC by 4:00 pm on Friday, September 4. Questions? Have your child(ren) contact Andrea Ortega.

California Scholarship Federation (CSF)
Is your child(ren) interested in becoming a member of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF)? This is an organization whose mission is to recognize and encourage academic achievement and community service. Membership is renewed every semester starting Sophomore year. Applications are due to the ARC or emailed to Marjorie Schmidt no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, September 11.  

SAT Testing | Seniors
If your Senior is interested in taking the SAT at MVC on Friday, October 16, from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm (time is subject to change), please sign up by September 4, at 3:00 pm. We have limited seats and will accommodate the first 75 registered students. The exam fee is $60 and will be charged to your Clarity account. Submission of the sign-up form is an agreement for payment that is non-refundable and non-transferable after Friday, September 4. PSAT Testing | Sophomores and Juniors
All Sophomores and Juniors will be taking the PSAT on Friday, October 16. By taking the PSAT, students may meet requirements to enter the National Merit® Scholarship Program, as well as have access to other scholarship opportunities. PSAT is a digital exam; students will be downloading the testing app in their Homerooms in the next few weeks and will receive more information. Please make sure your child(ren)’s devices are fully charged on testing day. If a student's device loses power on the day of the exam, they may not be able to complete the exam. Practice PSAT Test | Freshmen
MVC will be hosting our annual PSAT/SAT day on Friday, October 16. This year, we are partnering with Revolution Prep to administer the 9th Grade Practice PSAT. This test will provide instant score results and in-depth score breakdowns for parents. We will provide Revolution Prep with students' names, graduation year, and student email, as well as parent names, emails, and phone numbers. Revolution Prep is FERPA-compliant, and they do not sell, rent, or share student information. If you would like to opt out of the 9th Grade test, please email Venessa Gutierrez by Friday, September 11. 

Sophomore Personal Project
Parents of Sophomores, your child(ren) is beginning their Sophomore Personal Project (SPP) this month. This is a sweet opportunity for students to begin leading their own learning around a personal passion. Completion of the SPP is a requirement of all MVC Sophomores and serves as an invaluable capstone experience. Check out all the details in our Sophomore Personal Project Handbook. Questions? November Mexico Service Trip | 7 Spots Available
In keeping with our annual tradition of serving at Rancho De Sus Niños (RDSN), we will be taking a team of students on a short-term mission trip November 19 - 22. During the trip, students will have the opportunity to minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of the people at RDSN through various ministries. Details and registration information can be found here. Registration is due tomorrow (Friday, August 28). Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum of 40 students. Middle School Beach Day is Tomorrow

Home Football Games Student Supervision
We ask that Middle School students not remain on campus after school until the start of home football games. If for some reason your child(ren) is unable to be picked up or take the bus and must remain on campus, they are to be in the ARC only until the first game starts at 5:00 pm. All MVC school rules and dress code apply for the game. Friday, September 4 is our first home game; we hope to see you there!  

PHE Uniforms
All Middle School students enrolled in Physical & Health Education (PHE) will be required to wear a designated PHE uniform starting Tuesday, September 8. If students wear a sweatshirt and/or sweatpants, they must also be part of the PHE uniform. Purchases may be made at the Mustang Store.

School Supplies
Please review the grade-level supply lists (6th Grade, 7th Grade, 8th Grade) to be sure your student has what they need. A supply check will take place in classes to support our ATL (Approaches to Learning) organizational skills. 

iPad and Supply Care
In order to best care for and protect student devices, iPads are to be put away in backpacks before school, at breaks, lunch, and during passing periods. However, accidents are known to happen, so we strongly encourage parents to insure their child(ren)’s device as an extra measure of protection. Also, labeling all student accessories, including Apple Pencils, styluses, and chargers, is highly recommended, as we find a lot of missing items which end up in the Lost and Found.

Lost and Found
Many belongings (sweatshirts, water bottles, and PHE clothes/bags) are left throughout campus on a regular basis. Labeling your child(ren)’s belongings will help us return found items to the owner in a timely manner. Have your child(ren) check Lost and Found in the ARC for anything they may be missing.

The Scholastic Book Fair is Coming | Create an eWallet to Prepare for Your Child(ren)’s Visit
The book fair is coming to MVC August 31 - September 4! Parents can encourage reading by creating an eWallet for their child(ren) to make purchasing books easy and convenient; parents can visit the fair or load funds in advance of their child(ren)’s visit during school hours. California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) 
California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) is a statewide academic organization that honors outstanding middle school students in grades 7 and 8 for their excellence in academics and service to the community. The application period for students currently in 8th Grade is open now through Friday, September 4. More information can be found in this parent letter. Class Newsletters
Newsletters will be sent every Friday via email and contain important details regarding student learning goals, class announcements, and school-wide information. We thank you for taking time each week to read through the newsletters and don’t hesitate to reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher with any questions you may have, as we value parent partnership and a shared approach to educating our Lower Grade learners.

Enrichment Programs
Junior Mustangs have begun their enrichment opportunities as part of their school day. We are grateful for the teachers who are providing our students with these additional experiences. Be sure to ask your child(ren) about these learning times, which include Vocal Arts, PHE, and Spanish.

Student ID Required for Home Athletics Events
Beginning this year, students must present their MVC student ID card to enter home athletics events. IDs will be scanned at the gate for free admission. Please remind your child(ren) to bring their student ID card when attending a football, volleyball, or cross country event this fall. 

High School Wrestling Team Interest Meeting
Any High School student interested in competing for the wrestling team this winter should plan to attend an interest meeting on Thursday, September 3. Students should grab their lunch and report to the Dave Hart Gym Lobby at 12:00 pm. This meeting will be an opportunity for students to meet the new coach and provide feedback on the best times for open mats. 

Mustang Club Season Passes
Support MVC student-athletes by joining the Mustang Club here! Each membership includes two passes to all home athletic events during the 2026–27 school year. Into the Woods Auditions | September 1 & September 3
"Just remember, just remember...no one is alone. Someone is always on your side."  Step into the fairytale world of Into the Woods, where timeless characters vie for their own “happily ever after” in a magical setting! Auditions for our fall musical will take place on Tuesday, September 1 (note the date change), from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm, with callbacks on Thursday, September 3, from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm. Centennial Weekend
Event tickets for all Centennial Weekend events are now live! The celebration begins Thursday, October 1, with the Centennial Gospel Concert in the DPPAC. On Friday, October 2, the Centennial Gala at the Monterey Beach Hotel will honor MVC’s legacy and those who helped build it. The Gala is timed to accommodate parents dropping off students for the on-campus Homecoming Dance that evening. The weekend will culminate with a special on-campus celebration on Saturday, October 3, featuring a Vintage Picnic followed by the Homecoming Football Games at Mustang Stadium. Friday School | Friday, February 6
Friday School is an opportunity for students to get the support they need in managing their coursework. Our next Friday School is on Friday, February 6, from 2:15 pm - 3:45 pm. If assigned, Friday School takes priority over all extracurricular activities. Students can be involved in Friday School in three ways:

• They can proactively choose to attend to get additional help.
• They can be required by one or more of their teachers to attend. 
• They can be required to attend based on their grades. If they have a D or F, they will be required to attend.

Students required to attend will receive an email to their MVC account by Monday, February 2. Parents will be copied on the email. High School students will check in at the ARC; Middle School students will check in at the Middle School archway. Students will then be directed to their classrooms to work with their teacher(s).

High School Back-to-School Night | Wednesday, August 26
High School parents are invited to join us on campus for High School Back-to-School Night next Wednesday evening, August 26, where you can meet your child(ren)’s teachers and see their classrooms. Extracurricular Eligibility Grade Checks (Fine Arts/Athletics)
As extracurricular activities begin, we want to make families aware that Middle School students participating in Athletics and Fine Arts are expected to meet academic eligibility standards. In an effort to support students in managing their coursework and prioritizing their learning, academic eligibility grade checks will take place throughout the school year, with the first on Friday, September 11. Students who do not meet academic eligibility standards may be temporarily ineligible to participate in extracurricular activities until cleared by the Guidance Department. Families will be contacted directly, and Guidance will work with students to support their academic progress and return to eligibility. 

PHE Uniforms

Mustang Athlete Performance Program Begins Monday, August 24
MVC Athletics is excited to launch our Mustang Athlete Performance Program, beginning Monday, August 24. The program will provide year-round athletic development through strength training for High School athletes and speed and agility training for Middle and High School athletes. Printing at Home
For classes (teachers) that request a printed copy of an assignment, we ask that students plan ahead and print at home. We do not have printers available for student assignments.

Students on Campus after School
For our students who need to remain on campus after school hours, the ARC is open until 6:00 pm. November Mexico Service Trip
In keeping with our annual tradition of serving at Rancho De Sus Niños (RDSN), we will be taking a small team of students on a short-term mission trip November 19 - 22. During the trip, students will have the opportunity to minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of the people at RDSN through various ministries. Details and registration information can be found here. Registration is due no later than Friday, August 28. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum of 40 students. California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) 
California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) is a statewide academic organization that honors outstanding middle school students in grades 7 and 8 for their excellence in academics and service to the community. The application period for students currently in 8th Grade is open now through Friday, September 4. More information can be found in this parent letter. Star Testing Preparation
Please see the email from Jordan Christian sent on Wednesday, August 12 with details on how you can prepare your child for the Star Test. Please be sure they eat a well-balanced breakfast, come with a fully charged iPad (discourage gaming on the bus, which will drain their battery), and come ready to do their best on this important benchmark. Results will be sent home within two weeks of the testing day. Please note that the assessments will need to be made up if missed.

Extracurricular Eligibility Grade Checks (Fine Arts/Athletics)
As extracurricular activities begin, we want to make families aware that Middle School students participating in Athletics and Fine Arts are expected to meet academic eligibility standards. In an effort to support students in managing their coursework and prioritizing their learning, academic eligibility grade checks will take place throughout the school year, with the first on Friday, September 11. Students who do not meet academic eligibility standards may be temporarily ineligible to participate in extracurricular activities until cleared by the Guidance Department. Families will be contacted directly, and Guidance will work with students to support their academic progress and return to eligibility. 

PHE Uniforms
All Middle School students enrolled in Physical & Health Education (PHE) will be asked to wear a designated PHE uniform starting the week of August 31. Please mark your calendar for the mandatory Fall High School Parent Meeting on Wednesday, August 19. At least one parent or guardian must attend for each athlete. Mustang Athlete Performance Program Begins Monday, August 24
MVC Athletics is excited to launch our Mustang Athlete Performance Program, beginning Monday, August 24. The program will provide year-round athletic development through strength training for High School athletes and speed and agility training for Middle and High School athletes. Into the Woods Auditions
Step into the fairytale world of Into the Woods, where timeless characters vie for their own “happily ever after” in a magical setting! Auditions for our fall musical will take place Wednesday, September 2, from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm with callbacks on Thursday, September 3, from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm. Moms in Prayer Kickoff | Friday, August 14
Every Friday that school is in session, MVC's Moms in Prayer gather in the Boardroom in Price Hall to pray for our students, faculty/staff, and school from 8:15 am - 9:00 am. When you arrive, check in with security at Gate 2 for a visitor’s pass, park in Visitor Parking, and join us. For our students who need to remain on campus after school hours, the ARC is open until 6:00 pm. Café Updates for the New School Year
To purchase food at MVC's Café, students must create a MyQuickcharge account (returning students can use the same account as last year). You can use this Parents’ User Guide with step-by-step instructions for setting up and managing your account. In addition to the funds loaded in the My Quickcharge app, all major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay may be used for purchases in the Café. Cash and checks will not be accepted. Please note: Middle School students may pay only by scanning their student barcode or by presenting a physical debit or credit card. They will not be permitted to use a mobile phone or smartwatch for Apple Pay, Google Pay, or other digital wallet payments. In addition to the Student Meal Deal (entree, side, and beverage) for $10.50 and returning breakfast/a la carte items, the Café will offer bento boxes, grab & go salads, and periodic lunch combo promotions. Students should anticipate longer lines during the first few weeks as they and their classmates get accustomed to the various food options available. Check out our helpful FAQs for the Café.

Café Purchases the First Few Days of School
School pictures/student ID cards will be done on Thursday, August 13 (see below announcement). To make purchases in the Café until students have their student ID card, returning students can use last year’s ID card/barcode. New students can create their barcode using this link. Simply enter your child(ren)’s Focus ID number (found under My Information in Focus) in the Data box and click Refresh. School Picture Day | Thursday, August 13
School pictures will be taken during the school day on Thursday, August 13, for all grades. Ordering information and proofs will be emailed two weeks after picture day. Senior photos were taken by OdyMac Photography (free of charge) over the summer and will be submitted for the yearbook, as well as used for an MVC student ID card that includes a barcode for use at the Café. Volunteer Opportunities and Policy
Volunteers are an important part of the MVC community and are needed throughout the school year for both on-campus activities and off-campus field trips. Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity to build relationships and create lasting memories while supporting our students. To ensure you're ready to volunteer at the start of the school year, we encourage you to begin the volunteer clearance process as early as possible. Please note that California Senate Bill 848 (SB 848) has introduced additional volunteer screening and training requirements. This is a new process, so we are asking everyone interested in volunteering this year to sign up, even if you have previously volunteered. To get started, please complete this volunteer interest form. Once we receive your submission, we will contact you with the next steps and provide information about any additional requirements needed to complete the volunteer clearance process. Thank you for your willingness to serve the MVC community.

Car Line Drop-Off/Pick-Up Route
In order to refresh the memories of returning families and help orient new families, please review the drop-off and pick-up car line route that takes place in the Senior Lot. This is where all student drop-offs before school (7:45 am - 8:25 am) and pick-ups after school (3:20 pm) happen. During the first two weeks of school, we encourage you to come after 3:30 pm to limit the backup that typically occurs in the afternoon car line as a routine is established.

Dress Code
MVC has a dress code that communicates the value of a respectful and professional learning environment and ensures the focus is on learning both in the classroom and around campus throughout the school day. The basic idea is that if students are dressed to go to the beach (board/swim/volley/sweatpant material shorts) or to go to the gym (basketball shorts, sweats, leggings, yoga pants, joggers) or their midriff shows, then it is outside of dress code. Accessing Student Textbooks
Your child(ren)’s course schedule is preloaded, and the bulk of their required course materials will be ready to access beginning Tuesday, August 11, using these instructions. If you don’t see a book for every class, note that not all courses use textbooks, and some materials will be distributed by the teacher.

Activity Bus Registration
MVC’s Activity Bus registration is open to all in the Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and surrounding areas. This service is designed to support students participating in after-school programs. Questions? Contact Transportation Director Linda LaFont at 831-768-6181.

Important Annual Focus Updates & Required Waiver/Release Agreement
All families are required to log in to their parent Focus account to review and update their child(ren)’s Emergency Card information, including medications, medical conditions, and emergency contacts. After reviewing and making any necessary changes, please be sure to update the date at the bottom of the form to indicate that your information has been reviewed and verified. In addition, a Waiver/Release Agreement must be completed and signed in Focus for each student before the first day of school. Instructions for completing this can be found here. Questions? What is Flex in High School
The Flex time on our MVC bell schedule that happens before school on Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 8:20 am is optional for High School students. They are welcome to be on campus and can go to their teachers' classrooms for help, visit the Café to get breakfast, or hang out in the ARC or Outdoor Student Center until their first class begins at 8:25 am.

Student Parking Registration
If your child(ren) is planning to drive to school and park on campus, please fill out this registration form. Seniors who are painting a parking spot should have already filled out the form. Once the form is complete, students may pick up a parking permit in the ARC beginning on the first day of school. The permit should be displayed in their car when parking on campus. The parking registration form will be included in the High School Bulletin during the school year for students who obtain their driver's license and begin parking at school throughout the year. We're looking for two to three Middle School students to serve as the Middle School representative in the High School Yearbook class, helping create the MVC yearbook through photography, writing, interviewing, and page design. Please note that this is a High School, year-long elective and students may not switch out at the start of 2nd Semester. Health Station Update

Medications at School
If your child(ren) requires prescription medication to be kept at school, please have your healthcare provider complete this Prescription Medication Form this summer so it is ready for the start of the school year; a separate form is required for each medication. All medications must be in their original pharmacy-labeled container and placed in a bag clearly labeled with your child(ren)’s name. If your child(ren) carries an inhaler or other emergency medication, please complete the Self-Administered Medication Form and submit it to Nurse Bri for review.

Incoming 7th Grade Immunization Requirement
All incoming 7th Graders must have at least one dose of the pertussis-containing vaccine (Tdap/DTaP/DTP) given on or after the 7th birthday for 7th Grade entry. Please check with your physician to make sure your child(ren) is up to date and compliant for 7th Grade!

In order to refresh the memories of returning families and help orient new families, please review the drop-off and pick-up car line route that takes place in the Senior Lot. This is where all student drop-offs before school (7:45 am - 8:25 am) and pick-ups after school (3:20 pm) happen. During the first two weeks of school, we encourage you to come after 3:30 pm to limit the backup that typically occurs in the afternoon car line as a routine is established.

Dress Code
MVC has a dress code that communicates the value of a respectful and professional learning environment and ensures the focus is on learning both in the classroom and around campus throughout the school day. The basic idea is that if students are dressed to go to the beach (board/swim/volley/sweatpant material shorts) or to go to the gym (basketball shorts, sweats, leggings, yoga pants, joggers) or their midriff shows, then it is outside of dress code. Your child(ren)’s course schedule is preloaded, and the bulk of their required course materials will be ready to access beginning Tuesday, August 11, using these instructions. Activity Bus Registration

High School Class Schedules
Beginning August 1, please have your child(ren) look over their schedule in Focus. Over the next week or so, periods and teachers may change, but students should confirm their courses are correct. Beginning Monday, August 3, they can contact their guidance counselor with any questions. Requests for schedule changes based on teacher preference, placement with friends, or homeroom assignments will not be approved. If your child(ren) is unsure who their guidance counselor is, please contact Venessa Gutierrez in Student Services at 831-768-6116.

Student Parking Registration
If your child(ren) is planning to drive to school and park on campus, please fill out this registration form. Seniors who are painting a parking spot should have already filled out the form. Once the form is complete, students may pick up a parking permit in the ARC beginning on the first day of school. The permit should be displayed in their car when parking on campus. The parking registration form will be included in the High School Bulletin during the school year for students who obtain their driver's license and begin parking at school throughout the year. SAT Testing for Seniors
If your Senior is interested in taking the SAT at MVC on Friday, October 16 from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm (time is subject to change), please sign up by September 4 at 3:00 pm. We have limited seats and will accommodate the first 75 registered students. The exam fee is $60 and will be charged to your Clarity account. Submission of the sign-up form is an agreement for payment that is non-refundable and non-transferable after Friday, September 4. November Mexico Service Trip
In keeping with our annual tradition of serving at Rancho De Sus Niños (RDSN), we will be taking a small team of students on a short-term mission trip November 19 - 22. During the trip, students will have the opportunity to minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of the people at RDSN through various ministries. Details and registration information can be found here. Registration is due no later than Friday, August 28. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum of 40 students. CCS Paperwork for High School Transfer Students
MVC is required by CCS to submit eligibility paperwork for all High School transfer students. If your child(ren) is a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior transfer student who plans to participate in athletics, please contact the Athletics Office. Medications at School
If your child(ren) requires prescription medication to be kept at school, please have your healthcare provider complete this Prescription Medication Form this summer so it is ready for the start of the school year; a separate form is required for each medication. All medications must be in their original pharmacy-labeled container and placed in a bag clearly labeled with your child(ren)’s name. If your child(ren) carries an inhaler or other emergency medication, please complete the Self-Administered Medication Form and submit it to Nurse Bri for review.

Incoming 7th Grade Immunization Requirement
All incoming 7th Graders must have at least one dose of the pertussis-containing vaccine (Tdap/DTaP/DTP) given on or after the 7th birthday for 7th Grade entry. Please check with your physician to make sure your child(ren) is up to date and compliant for 7th Grade!

New Mustang Orientation

Every Friday that school is in session, MVC moms are invited to come pray for our students, faculty/staff, and school. No commitment is required, and no prayer experience is necessary! Friday School | Friday, February 6
Friday School is an opportunity for students to get the support they need in managing their coursework. Our next Friday School is on Friday, February 6, from 2:15 pm - 3:45 pm. If assigned, Friday School takes priority over all extracurricular activities. Students can be involved in Friday School in three ways:

• They can proactively choose to attend to get additional help.
• They can be required by one or more of their teachers to attend. 
• They can be required to attend based on their grades. If they have a D or F, they will be required to attend.

Students required to attend will receive an email to their MVC account by Monday, February 2. Parents will be copied on the email. High School students will check in at the ARC; Middle School students will check in at the Middle School archway. Students will then be directed to their classrooms to work with their teacher(s).

July College Kickstart
Did you miss the June College Kickstart? Sign up for the July College Kickstart, happening Wednesday, July 22nd from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, in the ARC. We will focus on the college application process as a whole. MVC’s Campus Closed Next Week

Update on MVC’s Exploration of Partnership with Green Valley Church
Last winter, MVC and Green Valley Church announced exploration of a future partnership in which MVC would operate an elementary school on site at Green Valley in Watsonville starting in August 2027. After months of consideration, conversation, and much prayer, the leadership of both ministries has issued this important update regarding future plans. Questions? New Student Tech Support
ARC team members will provide optional tech help for new MVC students, assisting with iPad setup (including Focus, Moodle, and email). If you would like to set up your child(ren)’s iPad on your own, follow these instructions. If you prefer, or find you need, one-on-one technical support, stop by on one of the following days:

Important Annual Focus Updates & Required Waiver/Release Agreement
All families are required to log in to their parent Focus account to review and update their child(ren)’s Emergency Card information, including medications, medical conditions, and emergency contacts. After reviewing and making any necessary changes, please be sure to update the date at the bottom of the form to indicate that your information has been reviewed and verified. In addition, a Waiver/Release Agreement must be completed and signed in Focus for each student before the first day of school. Instructions for completing this can be found here. Questions? Centennial Weekend
Join us October 1 – 3, as we celebrate 100 years of God’s faithfulness at MVC. All Mustangs — past, present, and future — are invited back to gather for a memorable weekend honoring our legacy and celebrating MVC’s future. The celebration begins Thursday, October 1, with a Worship Concert in the DPPAC. On Friday, October 2, the Centennial Gala at the Monterey Beach Hotel will honor MVC’s legacy and those who helped build it. Individual tickets are on sale now and are expected to sell out quickly. The Gala is timed to accommodate parents dropping off students for the on-campus Homecoming dance that evening. The weekend will culminate with a special on-campus celebration on Saturday, October 3, featuring a Vintage Picnic followed by the Homecoming Football Game and a Half-Time Centennial Celebration at Mustang Stadium. DP Core Newsletter
Parents/guardians of IB Diploma Candidates (class of 2027), here is the DP Core Newsletter for June/July, which was recently sent to our rising Year 2 Diploma Candidates. Please review the newsletter with your child(ren), and contact Laramie Holtzclaw with any questions. 

IB Candidate Results
IB Candidate results will be available on Monday, July 6, via IB’s Candidate website. Diploma and Course Candidates have already been handed and emailed the information needed to access results. If Candidates have questions about access, they can email Laramie Holtzclaw.

Middle School Information for the 2026-2027 School Year 
We are working on information regarding student schedules (including electives) and textbooks for the 2026-2027 school year. Student schedules are currently being built; therefore, not currently visible in Focus. Students will receive an email when schedules are finalized and published, no later than August 1. As you prepare for the school year, please look over the grade-level supply lists (6th Grade, 7th Grade, 8th Grade). Please continue to check the Mustang Flyer or the New Mustang page on the MVC website for details.

PHE Order Form
All Middle School families who need to order a PHE uniform should fill out this order form by Sunday, July 5. Orders will be available to pick up at New Mustang Orientation on Monday, August 10, or during the first week of school. Orders will be billed through Clarity. A uniform shirt and shorts are mandatory for Middle School PHE. If students wear a sweatshirt and/or sweatpants, they must also be part of the PHE uniform. Questions? Contact Karley Vazquez.

Junior Mustang Orientation
Mark your calendars for a time set aside when you and your child(ren) can come meet the teacher, see the classroom, get to know other parents, and get a few details about the start of the school year on Monday, August 10, from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm. This casual event will begin after the MS/HS New Mustang Orientation. You are welcome to purchase lunch from the cafe prior to the orientation (optional). Registration for 2026-2027 Sports
Online registration for all 2026–2027 Middle School and High School sports is open. All athletics paperwork is completed through Final Forms and must be completed before the first day of tryouts. Please refer to the school calendar for sport-specific tryout dates and times. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Katie Woodford.

Medications at School
If your child(ren) requires prescription medication to be kept at school, please have your healthcare provider complete this Prescription Medication Form this summer so it is ready for the start of the school year; a separate form is required for each medication. All medications must be in their original pharmacy-labeled container and placed in a bag clearly labeled with your child(ren)’s name. If your child(ren) carries an inhaler or other emergency medication, please complete the Self-Administered Medication Form and submit it to Nurse Bri for review.

Incoming 7th Grade Immunization Requirement
All incoming 7th Graders must have at least one dose of the pertussis-containing vaccine (Tdap/DTaP/DTP) given on or after the 7th birthday for 7th Grade entry. Please check with your physician to make sure your child(ren) is up to date and compliant for 7th Grade!

We are still making adjustments to schedules, teachers, periods, and room numbers in Focus. The guidance counselors are glad to answer any questions, but requests for class changes will be addressed starting Monday, July 20, to allow time to finalize these details before making any changes.

All Middle School students enrolled in Physical & Health Education (PHE) will be asked to wear a designated PHE uniform. High School Training Sessions
MVC Athletics is excited to offer multiple open gym and field opportunities for High School athletes this summer. The school calendar currently shows the training dates and times for coed football, boys basketball, girls basketball, girls volleyball, and girls soccer.
