Summer School
Summer School registration will be open Monday, February 26. Please fill out theregistration form, have your student check in with their Guidance Counselor for course approval and then turn in the form and payment to the Business Office.


Collegiate Summer Programs
Is your student looking to gain some collegiate level experience or earn college credit over the summer? Universities across the nation offer a wide range of diverse and exciting summer programs for high school students. We've compiled alist of some of the opportunities available for our students. Students will be able to challenge themselves by taking college level courses while also having fun exploring the world available to them!


ASB Applications for 2018-2019 School Year
ASB is a great opportunity for students to be a part of our school leadership. ASB applications are now available to current 9th - 11th grade students. Please contactMrs. Keathley or Mrs. Bartholomew with specific questions. Applications are due February 26.


HS Spring Play
The Diviners opens this month. Shows are Friday and Saturday, February 23 - 24 and March 2 - 3. Set during the Great Depression in Indiana, this piece presents a roller coaster of emotions. You won't want to miss it. Tickets are on sale now!


Middle School

Pennies for Patients
MVC Middle School students will join with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to benefit children and adults in the fight against blood cancer. From Monday, February 26 through Friday, March 9, students will collect spare change for Pennies for Patients, a unique program which offers students the opportunity to learn and develop character through service and philanthropy. Each Bible class per grade level that raises the most money (or over $200) will receive an ice cream party. Last year we collected over $2,000! Let’s exceed that amazing amount this year! We also take cash and checks. Checks should be made payable to LLS or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.


Electives for 4th Quarter
Elective registration for 4th quarter will begin on Tuesday, February 27 for the 8th grade. Please read the instructions for grade level registration dates and elective descriptions.


7th Grade Field Trip
On Thursday, March 22, all 7th grade students will go on a mandatory field trip to the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. The cost of the field trip is $50. Permission slips and online payment are due by Wednesday, March 7. Permission slips need to be returned to Mrs. Renard. Students need to bring their own lunch. We will leave at 8:30 am and return to school at 4:30 pm.


6th Grade Greek Festival
As part of our study of Ancient Greece, the entire 6th grade class will be participating in a Greek Festival on Wednesday, March 7. The festival will include elements from the students' core subjects and will give them a view of Greece across the curriculum. This flyer gives additional information and items needed including parent volunteers. Contact Mrs. Medina with questions.

Virtual College Fair
The Big Virtual - College Admissions Fair will take place on Tuesday, March 13. This is a national online event for high school juniors and seniors where hundreds of colleges converge to present their school. Over 200 colleges will be a part of this virtual event.


Revolution Prep - Homework Help
Students can receive homework help in 36 subject areas, 7 days a week, and get unlimited access to full-time instructors through Revolution Prep. Visit Revolution Prep’s website for more information or talk to your student's guidance counselor.


NHS Clothing Drive for Hope’s Closet
Do you want to see your teacher dressed like a clown?! If so, then donate some gently used clothing (sizes appropriate for elementary and middle school students) and place in one of 5 labeled bins across campus. Each bin represents a teacher who has agreed to dress like a clown if their bin is filled. Hope's Closet in Santa Cruz is a non-profit organization that collects gently used clothing for children of families in need. Bins will be out from Tuesday, February 20 through Friday, March 16. Slavic American Cultural Organization Scholarships
Seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and of Slavic heritage are eligible to apply for the Slavic American Cultural Organization Scholarship. Application forms are available in Student Services.

Cabrillo College Running Start
Seniors thinking about attending Cabrillo College should enroll now and sign-up for Running Start. This provides graduating high school seniors from Santa Cruz County priority registration for fall classes. MVC Seniors are taking the assessment on February 27. Please contact your guidance counselor for more information.


PSAT Results
Students can pick up their PSAT results in Student Services. Please contact your student's guidance counselor if you have any questions.


FAFSA Application
Seniors should complete their FAFSA application using the school code 053705. Note that other websites charge a fee, but this link is to the FREE Application for Federal Student Aid. Be sure to pay attention to individual college deadlines. California’s deadline is Friday, March 2, 2018, but other colleges may also have an earlier due date (e.g. Thursday, February 15).


Cal Grant Info Release Form
Seniors should fill out their Cal Grant form (including social security number) and turn it in to Mrs. Ogg, our new Registrar in Student Services. Cal Grants are grants (these are not student loans and are not repaid) which are awarded based on academic, financial, and other eligibility factors. These awards can represent a substantial contribution to college costs and can be used at UC’s, CSU’s, community colleges, many private California colleges, and some career and technical colleges.

Heads Up! The Outdoor Student Center
As our MVC community has come together over the last few months to support the new Outdoor Student Center, some excellent questions have been posed to our school's leaders concerning the project. In an effort to fully inform our MVC family, Dr. Salerno and Assistant Headmaster for Advancement Nikki Daniels prepared this brief video to answer several of these and to provide greater context for this effort.


Celebrating Lunar (Chinese) New Year at MVC

This Monday, February 12, MVC will celebrate Lunar (Chinese) New Year through a high school assembly organized by our Chinese students. Everyone on campus is invited to wear red - a color representing happiness and joy in China - as we join our resident students in observing this culturally significant day with them. Xīnnián kuàilè! (Happy New Year in Chinese)

Take a Trip to Japan!
Experience Japan 2018 with Ms. Muneishi from Wednesday, June 13 through Monday, 25. The trip is organized by Kintetsu, a Japanese travel agency in San Jose. The itinerary includes must-see places such as Hiroshima, Miyajima island, Kyoto, Thakayama, Mt.Fuji and Tokyo. In Tokyo, we will have opportunities to visit high schools for cultural exchanges.
Information Night is Monday, February 12 at 6:00 pm in room 22 at Price Hall, and the registration deadline is Thursday, March 15.

MVC Celebrates Student-Athletes
Congratulations to Syerra Montes and Lucas Schmidt, who were honored in a ceremony at MVC on February 7 for National Signing Day! Syerra is continuing her academic and athletic career at Holy Names University playing soccer, and Lucas is continuing his academic and athletic career at the University of North Dakota playing basketball.

CSF Application
It's time for those eligible to participate in CSF to submit their CSF application. Seniors who qualify as lifetime members, you will receive an email with a payment link following the application period (online payment only - no checks please). Freshman who qualified through CJSF membership, you are required to submit the CSF form this semester in order to maintain your honorary status. Applications are due Friday, February 9.


Valentine's Day Rose Sale
Japanese National Honor Society is having a Valentine Rose Sale. They will be taking orders for roses in front of the cafe during lunch from Thursday, February 1 to Friday, February 9. Prices are: 1 rose for $1, 6 roses for $5, 12 roses for $10. All roses will be delivered on Valentine's Day during 5th and 6th period. The Rose Sale is a perfect opportunity for you to show your appreciation and love for others. All proceeds go to the Outdoor Student Center project in honor of Mrs. Isomi Doyal, the late Japanese teacher, who started the MVC Japanese program.


Middle School

MS IMPACT

All students remaining on campus during IMPACT week must register for an AM and PM class OR an all-day class. This is time for students to explore areas of interest and enrichment. All students are required to attend IMPACT week unless they are on a trip. Students remaining on campus for IMPACT week may choose from avariety of courses. Registration began on Tuesday, January 30. Follow these directions on how to register through Focus. Deadline for registration is Monday, February 5. Some courses have fees. Information regarding fee payment will be provided after registration closes.


Washington DC Meeting
There will be an informational meeting for the 8th grade Washington, D.C. trip on Tuesday, February 6 from 6:30-7:30 pm in room M-9. This meeting is for both parents and students. We ask that parents and students sit together in order to make this meeting productive. If you cannot attend, please have another parent take notes for you. We will be going over a great deal of important information.


8th Grade Field Trip
On Wednesday, February 28, all 8th grade students will go on a mandatory field trip to the San Jose Tech Museum. The cost of the field trip is $15. Permission slips(turn in to Mr. Jones) and online payment are due by Wednesday, February 7. Students need to bring their own lunch or purchase one at the Tech Cafe. We will leave at 8:30 am and return to school at 2:30 pm so they can attend their 7th period elective.

Reenrollment Deadline - Wednesday, January 31

Reenrollment information for the 2018-2019 school year has been sent to students in good standing. Online reenrollment can be conveniently completed by logging in to your Admissions Portal. Once you complete the reenrollment forms and pay the non-refundable enrollment fee, your student’s position for the 2018-2019 school year will be secured. Please contact Kim Dawes with any questions.


CSF Funds Raised & Loved Ones Honored
Mrs. Corona's Advanced Art classes recently created 4 beautiful panels (on display in the ARC) to remember loved ones we have lost to cancer and to acknowledge the excellent fundraising work of numerous CSF members who pulled together to collect $1,700.82 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Great job everybody!

Students going on trips will have a separate meeting on how to prepare for their trip.

Spring Sports Tryouts Begin Monday
Tryouts for spring sports (Boys Volleyball, Boys Tennis, Boys Golf, Baseball, Softball, Track & Field and Swim) begin Monday, January 29. Location and times for tryouts can be found on the athletics website. All athletics paperwork must be completed and turned in to Kira Tellez (not the coaches) in the Athletics Office in the ARC before tryouts. Contact Kira Tellez with any questions.

This Wednesday, January 24, there will be a "White Out" fan night, and on Thursday, January 25, MVC fans will dress in blue for a "Blue Out." There will be special half-time contests (sponsored by Pizza My Heart) with prizes and lots of great basketball. Start times and other details are on the athletics website.

HS Honor Choir
Congratulations to Honor Choir students Josh Clymer, Elyse Coty, Reece Huff, Frank Hurley, Kenny Martin, Daniel Navarro, Sarah Roach, Isabella Steigman, Gabe Stewart, Trista Tan, Brynn Tunink, Shaw Xiao, Christine Xu and Alfred Zoppi for being accepted into the Central Coast Section 2018 High School Honor Choir. This choir will perform at Cabrillo College on January 25 - 27. These students have demonstrated a high level of skill in vocal music!

On Wednesday, February 28, all 8th grade students will go on a mandatory field trip to the San Jose Tech Museum. The cost of the field trip is $15. Permission slips(turn in to Mr. Jones) and online payment are due by Wednesday, February 7. Students need to bring their own lunch or purchase one at the Tech Cafe. We will leave at 8:30 am and return to school at 2:30 pm so they can attend their 7th period elective.

Imagine a currently under-utilized space transformed into the heart of the MVC campus! High School Instrumental Arts Concert
Enjoy an evening of instrumental music from our high school students on Friday, December 15 at 6:30 pm in the Studio MVC Theatre. Light refreshments will be served following the concert.

Advanced Choir Pre-Performance Appearance at the 2017 Nutcracker Suite
MVC's Advanced Choir will perform Christmas carols to welcome guests attending Agape Dance Academy's 2017 Nutcracker Suite. Performances will take place on Saturday, December 16 (2:00 pm and 7:00 pm) and Sunday, December 17 (1:30 pm and 4:30 pm) at the Mello Center for the Performing Arts in Watsonville. Tickets range from $16 to $25 and can be purchased online.

CJSF is a statewide academic organization that honors middle school students for their academic excellence. Students who qualify earn recognition at the awards program and can attend a field trip at the end of the year.

Thank You for Participating in MVC’s Parent Survey
A huge thank-you to each of you who gave of your time to participate in our MVC parent survey earlier this month. We are pleased to report that we had enough respondents to render our data statistically significant, and look forward to sharing what we learned and how we plan to incorporate the findings into future plans in the months to come.

High School

Winter Ball
Winter Ball will take place on January 27 at the Tech Museum in San Jose. Tickets will go on sale starting Monday, December 4 and will be sold online or at the Business Office.


IMPACT
IMPACT registration is closed and there are some fun and enriching activities for your students! If your student registered for a class with an associated fee, the fee links were emailed. Please pay those fees by Monday, December 4, as many of our classes have waiting lists.


Special Bell Schedule
There will be no chapel on Monday, December 11. There will be a special Performing Arts Chapel on Thursday, December 14. Both Monday and Thursday will have a special bell schedule. Please note that there is no FLEX on Thursday and school starts for all HS students at 8:10 am on Monday and Thursday.


Senior Yearbook Quotes
Each senior will have a quote by their photo in the yearbook. This should not be their own quote, but a quote by someone they look up to/admire, or a Bible verse. Seniors received an email about this. Please remind your student to submit these to Jennifer Legue.

Middle School

Middle School Play Day
On December 1, the entire middle school will have the opportunity to celebrate the end of the semester by going to see the movie, Wonder, and then return to school for fun activities until the end of the day. We will take MVC buses to Green Valley Cinema at 9:00 am and return in time for lunch at approximately 11:30 am.
Upon returning from the movie on Friday, December 1, there will be a Christmas Carnival in the afternoon. Please read this letter to parents for information on ways you may be able to help by volunteering or providing items for this fun-filled holiday event.

Middle School Sports Tryouts and Paperwork
Tryouts for girls volleyball and boys flag football begin Tuesday, January 16. All athletic paperwork must be completed and turned in to Kira Tellez in the Athletics Office in the ARC before tryouts. Please contact Kira Tellez with any questions.
